If you want the full-frills Bath experience, stay in Bathwick, a Georgian terraced residential district immediately east of the city centre. While the shops, bars, and restaurants of central bath are a short walk away, Bathwick is a quiet and refined corner of the city lined with high-end townhouses.
The city centre itself also comes with a premium price tag since all of Bath’s best attractions are within its streets including the Roman Baths, Bath Abbey, and Bath Street. Shoppers, foodies, and night owls will find themselves very comfortably accommodated here.
While some areas of Bath are refined and upscale, some areas of this university city have an indie edge. Laid-back Larkhall is a hipster hotspot for students and young professionals alike who appreciate independent arts, shops, and cafes and more.
Twerton, Weston, and Camden, all of which are just a short bus ride away from the city centre, are popular locations for those with a smaller budget. Yet each of them bubbles with that distinctive Bath charm and boasts their own selection of must-try bars and restaurants.
Alternatively, stay in Bath’s neighbouring city, Bristol. Just a 20 minute train ride away, Bristol has a wider selection of affordable accommodation than Bath. Plus this artsy, youthful, culture-rich city has an abundance of its own attractions to visit on your trip.
As Bath itself is a very small city with an efficient bus system, it’s easy to rely on public transportation to get around. However, a car is recommended for those that want to explore farther and wider.
