The UEFA European Championship – more commonly called "Euro" or "the Euros" – is a quadrennial tournament contested between European national football sides.
After decades of discussion about a Europe-wide football tournament, the Euros debuted in 1960 with a four-team competition in France won by the Soviet Union. The field has expanded several times since the inaugural edition, with the Euros currently being contested by 24 teams.
This selection of nations invariably consists of many of the giants of international football, with the likes of Germany, France, Spain, England, Italy, Portugal, and the Netherlands among the regular participants, so the tournament gives fans the chance to watch many of the best players in the world go head-to-head in a thrilling knockout competition.
The 2028 edition of the tournament will be held across England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland. The defending champions will be Spain, who triumphed 2-1 over England in the final of the 2024 competition.
