The Knights are the football team of the University of Central Florida (UCF) in Orlando, Florida. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the Big 12 Conference.
📜 UCF Knights Football History
The first UCF football team played in 1979, originally competing as an NCAA Division III program. The Knights moved up through the divisions of college football until finally joining Division I-A (now the Football Bowl Subdivision or FBS) in 1996. This made UCF the first program in NCAA history to play in all 4 football divisions.
The Knights competed as an independent school throughout this ascension, but eventually joined the Mid-American Conference in 2002. This membership lasted just 2 years, as UCF moved to Conference USA for the start of the 2005 season. In 2013, the Knights moved again, joining the American Athletic Conference.
From 2023 onwards, UCF is part of the Big 12 Conference.
