Toronto Tempo are a professional women’s basketball team based in Toronto, Canada, competing in the Women’s National Basketball Association as part of the Eastern Conference. Announced as an expansion franchise in 2024, they are the league’s first team outside the United States and Canada’s first WNBA club. The Tempo play their home games at Coca-Cola Coliseum in Toronto and use team colours that include Borealis Blue and Tempo Bordeaux.
The franchise grew out of strong local interest following a sold-out WNBA exhibition game in Toronto, leading the league to award an expansion team to Kilmer Sports Ventures, chaired by Larry Tanenbaum. The "Toronto Tempo" name and branding were unveiled in December 2024, emphasising rhythm, pace and the heartbeat of the city. In 2025, the organisation completed key front-office hires and began building community partnerships and national reach, including plans to stage selected home games in Montreal and Vancouver.
An illustrious ownership group featuring figures such as Serena Williams, Lilly Singh and Masai Ujiri supports president Teresa Resch and general manager Monica Wright Rogers. Two-time WNBA champion coach Sandy Brondello leads a roster assembled through the 2026 expansion draft and WNBA Draft, with established internationals and Canadian star Kia Nurse among the early centrepieces. Off the court, initiatives like Tempo Impact and a planned performance centre underline the club’s commitment to women and girls’ sport across Canada.
