Torino Football Club - more commonly referred to as Torino FC or simply Torino - is an Italian professional football club based in Turin and currently playing in the country's top tier Serie A. The club plays home matches at Stadio Olimpico Grande Torino.
Torino has its origins in the oldest Italian club, the Swiss- and English-founded Football & Cricket Club which was created in 1887. A few years later, the club merged with Internazionale Torino which then was absorbed by Football Club Torinese to become Foot-Ball Club Torino in 1906. The club won its first scudetto in 1927 (though this was revoked before they were reconfirmed champions of the 1927/28 season). The club has spent much of its history in the higher tiers of the Italian football system with the most successful period - known as the "Grande Torino" - coming in the 1940s when the side won 5 titles in a row. Torino filed for bankruptcy in 2005 due to the accumulated debts of president Francesco Cimminelli, however, the club was renamed Torino Football Club and was able to reform and rejoin the league.
