The Proclaimers are a Scottish folk rock and Americana-influenced duo formed by identical twin brothers Craig and Charlie Reid. Born in Leith, Edinburgh, and long associated with Fife and the wider Lothian region, they are now closely linked with Edinburgh, Scotland.
They emerged in the mid-1980s with their debut album "This Is the Story" (1987), whose single "Letter from America" brought them to national attention. Their 1988 album "Sunshine on Leith" cemented their reputation, featuring enduring songs such as "I'm Gonna Be (500 Miles)", "I'm on My Way" and "Sunshine on Leith".
Blending folk, rock, pop and Celtic influences, and singing in a distinct Scottish accent, they have continued to record and tour internationally with albums including "Hit the Highway", "Persevere", "Life with You", "Let's Hear It for the Dogs", "Angry Cyclist" and "Dentures Out". Their music inspired the stage musical and film "Sunshine on Leith", underlining their lasting cultural impact.
