The Neighbourhood, often styled as "The NBHD", is an American band from Newbury Park, California, United States. Known for a moody blend of alternative rock, indie rock and pop rock, they pair atmospheric guitars and electronic textures with introspective lyrics and a monochrome visual aesthetic.
Formed in 2011 by vocalist Jesse Rutherford, guitarists Jeremy Freedman and Zach Abels, bassist Mikey Margott and drummer Bryan Sammis, the group first gained attention with the EPs "I'm Sorry..." and "Thank You". Their 2013 debut album "I Love You." produced the breakthrough single "Sweater Weather", which became their signature song. They followed with the mixtape "#000000 & #FFFFFF" and second album "Wiped Out!", featuring fan favourites such as "R.I.P. 2 My Youth".
Subsequent releases included the self‑titled album "The Neighbourhood" and "Chip Chrome & The Mono-Tones", while tracks like "Daddy Issues" found a new audience online. After announcing a hiatus in the early 2020s, the band returned in 2025 with drummer Brandon Fried rejoining and released their fifth studio album "(((((ultraSOUND)))))", reaffirming their place in modern alternative rock.
