The Ashes is a Test cricket series between England and Australia, with a history dating back to the late 19th century.
During their 1882 tour of England, Australia recorded their first-ever Test win on English soil. After the defeat, English captain Ivo Bligh promised to “regain the ashes” of English cricket during the team’s 1882-83 tour of Australia. And so, this legendary series was born.
A rivalry stretching back over 145 years, Australia-England Test matches continue to captivate fans worldwide. Today, the Ashes is contested biennially. Each series consists of 5 Test matches, with the host alternating for each edition.
The next Ashes series is set to take place in Australia between 21 November 2025 - 8 January 2026.
