The Texans are the football team of Tarleton State University in Stephenville, Texas. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the United Athletic Conference.

Tarleton State first fielded a football team in 1904.
Between 1977 and 1990, the Texans won 6 conference championships as a member of the Texas Intercollegiate Athletic Association (TIAA). In 1994, Tarleton State joined the Lone Star Conference, and the team claimed 5 conference titles between 2001 and 2019.
The Texans moved to the FCS (formerly Division I-AA) in 2021 and joined the Western Athletic Conference (WAC). After the 2022 season, the WAC and ASUN conferences merged their football leagues into the United Athletic Conference, with Tarleton State as one of the inaugural members.
