First held officially in 1915, the Swiss Open Gstaad has an impressive formal history, but tournaments have in fact been played in and around Gstaad since the late 19th century – the tournament therefore has a claim to be one of the ATP tour's oldest events!
Today, this clay court ATP 250 event is famed for its stunning Alpine vistas, and the unusually high altitude at which it takes place. It is also known for its esteemed list of former winners: all-time great and Swiss native Roger Federer has won the event, as has Rod Laver, but it is Aussie legend Roy Emerson whose legacy is perhaps most prominently promoted at the Open – the tournament's host venue is named for the 5-time champion!
