Those keen to explore Malmo like a true tourist may prefer to stay in Gamla Vaster, the historic heart of the city. Many of its main attractions and landmarks are located here, including Malmo Castle, making it the perfect point from which to explore.
If art and culture is more your vibe, however, perhaps opt for Mollan, which is considered the heart of modern Malmo. This diverse and vibrant neighbourhood is brimming with cool shops, bars, cafes, and cuisines from all corners of the world – a haven for clubbers and foodies alike.
Norr, located directly north of Gamla Vaster next to Malmo Central Station, is the haven for shoppers as it’s the city’s commercial shopping centre, populated with high street favourites as well as independent boutiques.
Head to Vastra Hamn, a carbon neutral district nicknamed the ‘City of Tomorrow’ for a more refined experience of the city. Once an industrial port, the district is now a booming modern complex with upscale bars and restaurants.
Ribersborg is a quieter coastal neighbourhood a kilometre west of the city centre. With a sandy beach lining its coast, this neighbourhood is ideal for those who can’t choose between the city and nature.
While families would feel very much at home in Ribersborg, they might also like the charm and simplicity of Limhamn, a quieter neighbourhood further along the coast. It may be just a few kilometres from central Malmo, but it feels like a distant village.
A fast and reliable metro service runs throughout the city, making it easy to explore Malmo from wherever you decide to stay.
