Swansea City was founded in 1912, initially known as Swansea Town until 1969 when they changed their name following the area being granted city status.
The Swans reached Division 1 for the first time in their history in 1981, and they would later become the first Welsh team to play in the Premier League when they earned promotion in 2011.
Swansea have won the Welsh Cup on many occasions, and in 1994 they earned their first taste of Football League silverware with the EFL Trophy, which they also won in 2006. In 2013, they beat Bradford City 5-0 to win the League Cup for the first time.
