Street League Skateboarding (SLS) is an international competitive skateboarding series. Each year, professional street skateboarders compete against each other in cities around the world, showing their skills on custom-built plazas. At the end of the season, one man and one woman are named Super Crown World Champions.
History
Developed by pro skater Rob Dyrdek in 2010, SLS was founded to "bridge the gap" between true street skateboarding and traditional skate competitions. The series has been notable since its inception for the prize money it offers, which totals over USD $1.6 million and is the highest in the history of the sport.
SLS events have been held in Florida, Utah, California, São Paulo, London, Barcelona, and Munich, and many more cities across Europe and the Americas. Nyjah Huston is the most successful competitor in the history of the series, with more than 22 winning performances at SLS events.
Format & Scoring
Street League Skateboarding is an annual tournament series, comprising a number of pre-championship events that lead up to the Super Crown World Championship. At each of the events, professional skaters perform routines on custom-built street courses, designed to replicate real-life street obstacles like benches, slopes, and rails. The routines are marked by a panel of judges for difficulty and execution, and the 8 skateboarders with the highest points totals qualify for the event final. They perform their routines again, and whoever finishes the final with the top score is the champion of that event.
The final event of each season is the Super Crown World Championship. This features only the top 8 skateboarders of the year, based on their accumulated points totals from the pre-championship events. As in all the competitions, men and women perform their routines in separate competitions. At the end of the Super Crown World Championship, the highest scoring man and woman are declared World Champions.
