Stockport County are a professional football club based in Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. Known as the Hatters due to the town's history in the hat-making industry, the team's home ground is Edgeley Park.
📜 Stockport County History
The club was formed in 1883 by pupils from Stockport Sunday School, with the team initially known as Heaton Norris Rovers. In 1890 they adopted the name Stockport County, and the Hatters joined the Football League in 1900.
Stockport spent much of the 20th century in the third or fourth tiers of English Football, while also winning many local Cheshire and Manchester-based competitions.
They reached back-to-back EFL Trophy finals in 1992 and 1993, but lost both to Stoke City and Port Vale, respectively. County did, however, end the century in the second tier, achieving their highest position in the EFL with an 8th-placed finish in 1998.
In 2011, the Hatters suffered relegation from the Football League for the first time in their history, eventually regaining their place in League Two 11 years later.
