Stade Rennais Football Club - more commonly known as Stade Rennais FC, Stade Rennais, or Rennes - is a French professional football club based in Rennes, Brittany and currently playing in the country's top tier Ligue 1. The club plays home games at Roazhon Park.
Founded in March 1901 by a group of students based in Brittany, the club's popularity grew quickly. In 1904, the club merged with its rivals FC Rennais in a bid to dominate the Breton league and became known as Stade Rennais Université Club. After the First World War, the club changed its focus and began thinking on a national level and started to go from strength to strength. Rennes has won the Coupe de France on several occasions as well as Ligue 2 but has never won the Ligue 1 title.
