Museo Guggenheim Bilbao

For those who want to be in the centre of the action, look no further than the Casco Viejo (Old Town) district. This is Bilbao's oldest neighbourhood, full of handsome historic buildings, bustling shopping streets and lively bars. Budget travellers will especially relish the wallet-friendly options located here.

If nightlife is a priority or if you're in town for a football game, then consider the Indautxu area. There are bubbly bars and clubs on nearly every corner of this neighbourhood, with many serving as meeting spots before or after matches at nearby San Mamés Stadium.

Abando is the district to stay in if luxury is what you crave, as this elegant area is home to grand boulevards and hotels full of on-trend opulence, all located next door to the Guggenheim Museum.

Other budget-friendly areas that offer an authentic snapshot of the city include the student-centric Deusto district and the gritty-yet-gregarious San Francisco. Last but not least, families who prefer serene, green surrounds should look at the hotels and apartments of the Santutxu district.
