MARQ, also known as the Museo Arqueológico Provincial de Alicante, is an archaeological museum located in Alicante (Alacant), on Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Housed in the former provincial hospital of San Juan de Dios, it functions as a modern exhibition space showcasing the history of the province from prehistory through to the contemporary era.
The venue hosts permanent and temporary archaeological exhibitions, educational workshops, cultural events, lectures and international touring shows. MARQ is noted for its innovative use of multimedia, reconstructions and interactive exhibits that explore Iberian, Roman, medieval and modern-period finds from the wider Alicante region.
The institution originated as the provincial archaeological collection in the early twentieth century and developed into a fully fledged museum over time. It later moved into the restored hospital building, where it was adapted to serve as a state-of-the-art museum facility. Today MARQ is regarded as one of Spain’s leading archaeological museums and a significant cultural landmark in Alicante.
