The Jackrabbits are the football team of South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Missouri Valley Football Conference (MVFC).
📜 South Dakota State Jackrabbits Football History
South Dakota State fielded its first football team in 1900. In 1922, the university joined the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference, a Division II conference where the Jackrabbits remained until 2003.
South Dakota State was a charter member of the Great West Football Conference at its founding in 2004, which brought the Jackrabbits into Division I and the FCS for the first time. In 2008, the team moved to the MVFC.
The Jackrabbits won their first ever national title in the 2022 season, securing the FCS championship with a win over rivals North Dakota State.
