π South Africa Cricket Team History
Also known as the "Proteas", the South Africa Cricket Team is overseen by Cricket South Africa. South Africa entered first-class and international cricket at the same time when they hosted an England cricket team in the 1888β89 season. Initially, the team was no match for Australia or England, but after gaining experience and expertise, they could field a competitive team by the first decade of the 20th century.
South Africa gained full ICC member status in 1909. Most notably, the team won the ICC Champions Trophy in 1998.
