Shrewsbury Town are a professional football club based in Shrewsbury, England. Their nickname is the Shrews, and they play their home games at New Meadow.
📜 Shrewsbury Town History
Shrewsbury Town were founded in 1886. The club filled the void left behind by Shrewsbury FC, who were founded in 1868 but folded in 1880, as well as other local teams such as Shropshire Wanderers and Castle Blues who had also disbanded.
The Shrews spent many years playing in various local leagues before finally joining the Football League in 1950, and in 1958 they became a founding member of the Fourth Division.
Shrewsbury spent the 1980s in the Second Division, the highest tier they've achieved in the English football pyramid.
In 1996 and 2018 they reached the EFL Trophy final, but they finished as runners-up on both occasions.
