Taxis are readily available in Shanghai, although visitors should make sure they are using official, licensed vehicles, as these are the only taxis allowed near the circuit. Licensed taxis have logo lights on top of the car, clearly visible meters, vacancy lights, and a shield between the driver and the backseat. Unlicensed taxis often have plate numbers that start with the letter X.
Many taxi drivers do not speak much English, so visitors who do not speak Shanghainese or Mandarin may wish to have a local speaker (such as a hotel receptionist) write the address of the circuit on a piece of paper to show the driver.
Shanghai taxis are renowned for their low prices, although these may rise during busy times. A trip from central Shanghai to the circuit typically costs CN¥200-250 (USD $30-35).
Traffic congestion is highly likely during major events at the circuit, so plan plenty of time for the journey. The trip from central Shanghai to the circuit is usually around 45 minutes, but much longer in heavy traffic.
Many rideshare apps are not available in Shanghai, but DiDi is one local option that has Apple and Android apps available in English.
Many fans choose to travel by metro, as the circuit has its own dedicated metro station: Shanghai Circuit Station (上海赛车场站) on Line 11. The line branches towards 2 different end stations, Huaqiao and North Jiading, and fans travelling to the circuit should ensure they are heading for Huaqiao.
Shanghai Circuit Station is located around 300 m (4 min) from Gate 1 and 500 m (6 min) from Gate 11. From central Shanghai, the metro journey takes around 60 minutes. Tickets are available at all stations and cost less than USD $2. Alternatively, Shanghai Public Transportation Cards cost CN¥20 (USD $3) and can be loaded in increments of CN¥50 or CN¥100 for multiple uses.
Deciding where to stay in Shanghai can be quite dizzying, as it is so vast and diverse. It all depends on whether you want to be surrounded by history, bars, culture, parks, or simply good transport links. Whatever your vibe – and budget – this 2,643 sqm city has the ideal location for you.

Walking is easy in central Shanghai, but can become more difficult and dangerous in other parts of the city. The circuit is located around 35 km from the city centre, close to busy, major highways, so walking to the venue is not recommended.
