Along with England, Scotland boast the oldest national team in world football; the pair contested the first ever official international game in 1872, with the Three Lions forever known as the Scots' "Auld Enemy." For the following 40 years, the pair, along with Wales and Ireland, would exclusively play each other in the British Home Championship; Scotland lost just 2 of their first 43 international matches. The team did not make their FIFA World Cup debut until 1954 as a result of a dispute with the governing body. Scotland have since made various appearances on football's biggest stage but they are yet to make it to the knockout rounds.
