The Spartans are the football team of San Jose State University in San Jose, California. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the West Division of the Mountain West Conference.
San Jose State has earned 17 conference titles in its history, including a highly successful spell in the Big West Conference between 1969 and 1995. In this period, the Spartans won 8 championships, more than any other team in the history of the Big West. From 1971 to 1992, the program was particularly strong, recording 15 winning seasons, reaching 4 bowl games, and seeing almost 50 alumni make it to the NFL.
