The Bearkats are the football team of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Western Athletic Conference.
From the 2023-24 season, Sam Houston State will compete in the highest level of college football, the Football Bowl Subdivision, as a member of the Conference USA (C-USA). This comes after their first ever FCS National Championship win in 2021, when they beat the South Dakota State Jackrabbits in 23-21 in the decisive final game.
