The Hornets are the football team of California State University, Sacramento. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Big Sky Conference.
📜 Sacramento State Hornets Football History
Sacramento State first fielded a football team in 1954, although they did not win a game until the next season. From their founding until 1982, the Hornets competed in the Far Western Conference.
After a single season in the Northern California Athletic Conference, Sacramento State moved again to join the Western Football Conference in 1985. This lasted until 1992, and from 1993 to 1995 the team played in the American West Conference.
Since 1996, the Hornets have competed in the Big Sky Conference.
