Rory McIlroy is a professional golfer from Holywood, Northern Ireland, born 4 May 1989. McIlroy is among golf's most famous modern stars.
History
Like many notable sports stars, McIlroy showed a remarkable aptitude for golf at a young age, and aged 15 he helped Europe win the Junior Ryder Cup on US soil in 2004. The following year, he set a competitive course record score of 61 under-par on Royal Portrush Golf Club's Dunluce links.
McIlroy turned professional in 2007 and quickly made a name for himself on the European and PGA Tours. He has won multiple major championships, including the US Open, The Open Championship, and the PGA Championship; indeed, he became just the third golfer to win 4 major titles by the age of 25, following on from the legendary Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods.
In 2010, the Northern Irishman won his first full-fledged Ryder Cup, the first of several victories he's help Team Europe gain over their American counterparts.
