📜 Reading FC History
The Royals were founded on Christmas Day in 1871. Their nickname is derived from the Royal County of Berkshire where they reside; in the past they were also known as the Biscuitmen due to Reading's association with biscuit manufacturer Huntley & Palmers.
Reading turned professional in 1895 and joined the Football League in 1920.
They won several minor honours during the 20th century, including the Third Division South Cup in 1938, the London War Cup in 1941, and the short-lived Full Members' Cup – which only existed from 1985-1992 – in 1988.
In 2006, they reached the English top flight for the first time in their history after earning a record 106 points in the Championship.
