The Estádio Municipal de Braga, or Municipal Stadium of Braga, is a football stadium located in Braga, Portugal, and it is the home of one of the country's top teams, Sporting Clube de Braga. Built into the side of a mountain, this iconic venue is also known as "A Pedreira," The Quarry.
📜 History
The stadium was built in 2003 in preparation for Portugal's hosting of the 2004 UEFA European Championship, where it held 2 group games.
It does not have a stand behind either goal, in part due to the mountain occupying the space at one end of the ground; the other looks out across the city. As such, there are only the 2 lateral stands; these are connected by a steel-string canopy inspired by Incan bridges in South America.
As the home of Braga, it regularly plays host to Primeira Liga, UEFA Champions League, and UEFA Europa League football. It has also held several matches played by the Portugal national team over the years.
