Portsmouth were elected to the Football League in 1920 and reached the First Division within 7 years, while in 1928 they reached their first FA Cup final. They did so again in 1934, before finally lifting the trophy in 1939.
An impressive post-war period saw Pompey claim back-to-back First Division titles in 1949 and 1950.
They lifted the FA Cup for a 2nd time in 2008 after beating Cardiff City in the final, which also earned the club its first foray into European football the following season. Their subsequent UEFA Cup campaign included a historic 2-2 draw with Italian giants AC Milan, and they also reached another FA Cup final in 2010.
