Portland Fire are a professional women’s basketball team based in Portland, Oregon, United States. Their nickname is the Fire, and they compete in the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) as part of the Western Conference.
The original Portland Fire played in the WNBA from 2000 to 2002 before the franchise was folded. In September 2024 the league awarded Portland a new expansion franchise, reviving the Portland Fire name and identity. Owned by RAJ Sports, led by siblings Lisa Bhathal Merage and Alex Bhathal, the team plays its home games at the Moda Center, which it shares with the NBA’s Portland Trail Blazers.
The reborn Fire are positioned as the WNBA’s 15th team and a flagship for women’s sport in the city, closely linked with fellow RAJ Sports property Portland Thorns FC. Ahead of their 2026 debut season the Fire unveiled a new visual identity built around a burning rose motif, assembled an executive group including general manager Vanja Černivec and head coach Alex Sarama, and began building their inaugural roster through an expansion draft and college draft selections.
