Pixies (often referred to as "the Pixies") are an American band from Boston, United States, blending alternative rock, indie rock and noise pop. Formed in 1986 by Black Francis, Joey Santiago, Kim Deal and David Lovering, their loud-quiet dynamics, surreal lyrics and angular guitar work proved highly influential on 1990s alternative music.
Breakthrough albums "Surfer Rosa" and "Doolittle" drew wide acclaim, featuring notable singles "Gigantic", "Monkey Gone to Heaven", "Here Comes Your Man" and later "Velouria". They followed with "Bossanova" and "Trompe le Monde" before disbanding in 1993. The band reunited in 2004; Deal left in 2013 and was succeeded by Paz Lenchantin. Modern-era releases include "Indie Cindy", "Head Carrier", "Beneath the Eyrie" and "Doggerel". Revered for their influence on peers and successors, Pixies remain an enduring force in alternative music.
