Perth Wildcats are a professional basketball team based in Perth, Australia. Playing their home games at RAC Arena – which is affectionately nicknamed "The Jungle" – they compete in the National Basketball League (NBL).
📜 Perth Wildcats History
The Wildcats were founded in 1982, known for the first 2 years of their existence as the Westate Wildcats. The NBL itself was formed in 1979, and the Wildcats' creation was the result of 3 years of lobbying to bring a team to the area.
In 1987, the Wildcats reached the NBL Grand Final in what was their first appearance in the post-season competition. They have been remarkably consistent in reaching the playoffs ever since; their 35-year qualification streak – a feat unmatched across Australian professional sport – finally came to an end in 2022.
The Wildcats first lifted the NBL Championship in 1990, and they have gone on to become the league's most successful team with more titles than any other side, and they are the only team thus far to win them across 4 different decades. In 2021, they also won the inaugural NBL Cup in what has so far been its only iteration.
