When the XFL was led by Vince McMahon, Florida was represented by the Tampa Bay Vipers, who played alongside the other original teams for 5 weeks in 2022 before league operations were shut down.
After the XFL was bought by Dwayne Johnson's Alpha Acquico, the league confirmed that the Tampa market would be replaced by a team in Orlando. The Guardians announced their first head coach as Terrell Buckley.
