Oleksandr Usyk is a Ukrainian boxer, born in Simferopol on 17 January 1987. He began boxing in 2002 at the age of 15 and won a variety of medals at amateur level culminating in an Olympic gold in the heavyweight category at London 2012. He turned professional the following year and in 2016 he won the WBO cruiserweight title. In 2018, Usyk became the undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world when he won the inaugural World Boxing Super Series, picking up the WBC, WBA, IBF, and The Ring magazine titles. He is considered one of the world’s best pound-for-pound boxers.
