Notts County are a professional football club based in Nottingham, England. Their home ground is Meadow Lane.
Having been founded in 1862, Notts County are the world's oldest professional football club. Also known as the Magpies – a nickname they share with Newcastle United – thanks to their black and white strip, they were the source of inspiration for Italian giants Juventus to adopt their colours for their own kit back in 1903.
📜 Notts County History
County were founded as Nottingham Football Club over 160 years ago, on 28 November 1862 – almost a year before the Football Association itself was established – and in 1888 they were 1 of the 12 founding members of the Football League.
In 1894, they lifted the only major honour of their history, the FA Cup. They had previously reached the final in 1891, but they lost 3-1 to Blackburn Rovers just a week after thrashing them 7-1 in the league.
It would be 101 years until the Magpies lifted another notable piece of silverware in the form of the Anglo-Italian Cup.
In 2019, County were relegated from the Football League for the first time in their then-157-year history. They returned in 2023.
