The Demons are the football team of Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, Louisiana. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Southland Conference.
📜 Northwestern State Demons Football History
Northwestern State first fielded a football team in 1907, and the team competed as an independent for its first 6 years. From 1914 until 1925, the Demons played in the Louisiana Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
After brief spells in several other conferences, Northwestern State joined the Gulf States Conference in 1948 and remained a member until 1970. During the 1970s and 1980s, the Demons played briefly in the Gulf South and Gulf Star Conferences, with multiple gaps where they competed independently.
Since 1987, Northwestern State has been a member of the Southland Conference. The Demons have won 4 conference titles in this period.
