The Eagles are the football team of North Carolina Central University in Durham, North Carolina. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) of the NCAA and play in the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
📜 North Carolina Central Eagles Football History
North Carolina Central fielded its first football team in 1922, and spent its first 5 years as an independent school. From 1928 until 1970, the Eagles competed in the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
This period was followed by 7 years in the MEAC. In 1979 the team moved again, joining the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA). After almost 3 decades in the CIAA, the Eagles went independent again from 2007 to 2009.
In 2010, North Carolina Central returned to the MEAC.
The Eagles claim 2 Black College National Championship titles, won in 2006 and 2022.
