The Colonels are the football team of Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the Southland Conference.
📜 Nicholls Colonels Football History
Nicholls played its first football season in 1972 and joined the Gulf South Conference, where they remained until 1978.
After several years competing as an independent program, the Colonels joined the Gulf Star Conference in 1984, but this membership lasted only until 1986. Nicholls went independent again in 1987.
In 1991, the Colonels joined the Southland Conference. The team won conference titles in 2005, 2018, and 2019.
Nicholls play home games at Manning Field at John L. Guidry Stadium.
