The Hagley Oval is located in Hagley Park, near central Christchurch. Hagley Park is within walking distance of Christchurch city centre, and it is also easily reachable via Christchurch public transport.
If attending cricket events, parking on the nearby streets may be limited, so we encourage you to arrive early.
Below you can find general information on travel and parking for Hagley Oval. Individual events may have additional/restricted services available, and so we recommend clicking through to the event and viewing the Travel & Parking tab for event-specific information.
There is no parking available at the Hagley Sports Centre on match day. One exception is the mobility parking area, available near the St Albans Cricket Clubroom, on the north side of the venue. You will be required to show a valid mobility pass to enter this area. Limited parking options are available on streets adjacent to the venue.
Given Hagley Park’s immediate proximity to Christchurch’s city centre, taking a taxi is not necessary if you are staying in a central area. Otherwise, the venue is easily accessible via taxi. The address to give the driver is Hagley Oval, Riccarton Avenue.
The Hagley Oval is easily accessible via bus. Take either bus route 80, or Christchurch’s Purple (P) or Yellow (Y) bus lines. Hop off at Riccarton Ave (Hospital) bus stop, which is 100 m (1 minute) away from the venue.
Several of Christchurch’s bicycle routes pass through Hagley Park and very near the Hagley Oval. Once you arrive at the venue, you can find cycle racks on the north and easts sides of the venue.
If you are approaching the Hagley Oval from Christchurch’s city centre, consider taking a scenic walk along the Avon River. The journey is approximately 2-km (20-minutes) long.
Although Christchurch is quite a pricey city when it comes to food and transportation, accommodation can come surprisingly cheap. While there are plenty of high-end branded and boutique hotels that are dressed to impress, the city is a hub for backpackers, meaning there’s a fantastic choice of cheap yet well-appointed hostels too.
Outside food and drink stands are available at the venue, however, options may be limited. Visitors can bring water and soft drinks in sealed plastic bottles (up to 1.5 litres), as well as thermos flasks of tea ad coffee. However, alcohol not purchased at the venue is prohibited. Small amounts of non-commercially packaged food for personal consumption is also allowed.
Toilets
Accessible toilet facilities are located near the groundsmen’s office.
Parking
Mobility parking is available in the carpark adjacent to the St Albans Cricket Club rooms. Only vehicles with the appropriate Mobility Pass can park in this area. Â
Seats
An accessible wheelchair area is provided in the area beside the gap in the embankment as shown on this plan.  It is immediately behind the picket fence.  There are a few chairs in this area for wheelchair carers but it is recommended carers bring their own fold-up chair.  Accessible toilets are located through the gap in front of the groundsmen’s office.
Venue staff advise wheelchair carers to bring their own fold-up chairs, as seating in the designated disabled areas is limited.
Hagley Oval has a capacity of approximately 18,000. However, the capacity does differ between events depending on the seating configuration.
