Auckland isn’t the easiest city to get around, and public transport around the city centre can be a little slow. For this reason, many visitors prefer to stay in the central business district (CBD), where many of the main attractions of the city are within walking distance. Accommodation options in this area are broad, from cheap but clean backpacker hostels, to luxury hotels at SkyCity. Nightlife, restaurants, shops, and museums all abound in this area.

The Viaduct area of the city has been redeveloped to make it an upmarket waterfront location. With ocean views and great waterfront nightlife this is a great choice for travellers. Still only around 10 minutes walk from the CBD and many of the main attractions but offering a less bustling feel to the area. Options in this area tend to be priced higher.

If you want somewhere a little quieter and more picturesque, consider the Mount Eden region. With older more historical buildings and famous craters, this area has a quiet but trendy café and bar culture. A short drive from the centre of the city, with some public transport connections to the main areas too.

If travelling with kids or family, you can’t go wrong with the Mission Bay area. Situated on the east coast, you will find a sandy beach, parks, and a variety of restaurants and bars located on the waterfront. A popular area to stay in – make sure you book early.

About Auckland Town Hall

The Great Hall located within Auckland Town Hall, is a premier concert and event venue in Auckland, New Zealand. It hosts a variety of events, including music concerts, theatre productions, and corporate functions.

The venue opened on 14 December 1911 and has since become one of Auckland's most iconic landmarks. Designed by the architect John James Clark, the hall features an impressive organ and excellent acoustics, making it a favourite for orchestral and choral performances. The building underwent extensive renovations in the late 20th century to restore its historical features while upgrading its facilities. Today, it continues to be a central hub for cultural activities in Auckland.
