New York City FC are a football team playing in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference.
History
The team was founded in 2013 by City Football Group and Yankee Global Enterprises, who own Manchester City and the New York Yankees, respectively, and joined MLS in 2015 as the second New York team after the New York Red Bulls.
City launched with European stars including David Villa, Frank Lampard, and Andrea Pirlo in their ranks, and although they struggled slightly in their first campaign, it did not take long for them to establish themselves as a force in the Eastern Conference, which they won for the first time in 2019 after coming close on several occasions.
In 2021, NYCFC won the MLS Cup for the first time.
