The Wolf Pack is the football team of the University of Nevada, Reno. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the West Division of the Mountain West Conference.
Nevada first fielded a football team in 1896. The early team was known as the Nevada Sagebrushers, but the nickname was changed to Wolf Pack in 1922.
For the program's first 8 decades, Nevada moved back and forth between competing as an independent school and membership of the Far Western Conference. In 1979, the Wolf Pack joined the Big Sky Conference, and remained a member until the end of the 1991 season.
From 1992 until 1999, Nevada competed in the Big West Conference, and from 2000 to 2011 they played in the Western Athletic Conference. Since 2012, the team has been part of the Mountain West Conference.
Only 1 former Wolf Pack player has been inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame: Marion Motley, a fullback who played for Nevada from 1940 to 1942.
