The English Reformed Church Amsterdam, sometimes referred to as the English Church at the Begijnhof, is a historic Presbyterian church located within the secluded Begijnhof courtyard in the heart of Amsterdam. Affiliated with both the Church of Scotland and the Protestant Church in the Netherlands, it serves an English-speaking, international congregation.
The church primarily hosts weekly Sunday worship services and other Christian gatherings, but it is also known for its rich musical life, including organ recitals and chamber music concerts. The congregation has worshipped here since the early seventeenth century, following the transfer of the medieval chapel to English-speaking Protestants in 1607. The current brick church developed from the earlier Beguine chapel, rebuilt after a fire in the early fifteenth century and subsequently adapted during and after the Reformation. Today the English Reformed Church remains an active place of worship and a notable historic landmark within Amsterdam’s city centre.
