📜 Motherwell History
Motherwell were formed in 1886 by a merger between a pair of local teams, Glencairn FC and Alpha FC. They turned professional 7 years later and joined the Scottish Football League. The team initially played in blue before adopting their now signature claret and amber colour scheme in 1913.
The Well won the first and only Scottish league title in their history in 1932, fired to victory by Willie MacFadyen's still-standing record of 52 goals.
Post-war success followed with the Scottish League Cup and Scottish Cup in 1950 and 1952, respectively, and they picked up the latter once again in 1991.
Motherwell have the honour of being involved in 2 of the highest-scoring games in Scottish league history; in 1999 they lost 6-5 to Aberdeen, while in 2010 they avoided the same fate against Hibernian when Lukas Jutkiewicz netted a 91st-minute equaliser to earn them a stunning 6-6 draw.
