The Hurricanes are the football team of the University of Miami. They compete in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) of the NCAA and play in the Coastal Division of the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Miami claims 5 national titles and 9 conference titles, all dating from the school's time in the Big East Conference. The Hurricanes moved to the ACC in 2004, and since then the team has won 1 divisional title, defeating Clemson for the ACC Coastal Championship in 2017. Miami is one of the most storied teams in college football, holding records for the most first-round selections in a single NFL draft and most consecutive drafts with a first-round pick. Vinny Testaverde and Gino Torretta both won the Heisman Trophy as Hurricanes, and 11 Miami players and coaches have been inducted to the College Football Hall of Fame.
Miami's main rivalries are with Florida and Florida State. Since 2002, the Florida Cup has been awarded to whichever of the 3 teams ends with the best head to head record when they all play one another in the same year.
The Hurricanes are famous for entering the field in a thick cloud of smoke while hurricane sounds are played over the stadium speakers. They play their home games at Hard Rock Stadium, which they share with the Miami Dolphins NFL team.
