The Bears are the football team of Mercer University in Macon, Georgia. They compete in the Football Championship Subdivision of the NCAA and play in the Southern Conference.
Mercer fielded its first ever team in 1891, but it was not until 1906 that the college competed regularly in football. Originally known as the Baptists, the team became the Bears in 1924. Mercer put football on hiatus when the United States became involved in World War Two, and did not restore the team until 2013, after a 72-year break.
The Bears play their home games at Five Star Stadium on the Macon campus, which has a capacity of 10,200.
