The IBA World Boxing Championships are held every 2 years and are considered the highest-profile amateur boxing competition next to the Olympics.
The inaugural edition of the event was held in 1974 in Havana, Cuba and it has since been staged in over a dozen nations around the world. The competition was originally for men only, but a women's version was added in 2001, with the 2 editions of the championships now taking place in alternating years.
The IBA World Boxing Championships feature competition across numerous weight classes and by boxers from various countries, with Cuba having dominated the medal count over the years.
In 2021, the competition introduced significant prize money into the competition, offering $100,000 each to those who won gold in each weight class.
The tournament will be held in Liverpool between 4-14 September 2025
