The Ironman World Championship is an ultra-triathlon inaugurated in 1978. Since 2023, the men's and women's races – normally held on the same course on the same day or weekend – have been split into 2 separate events, which will alternate each year between Nice, France, and Kailua-Kona, Hawaii.
The 2025 Men's Ironman World Championship takes place on the historical Nice course, which has been in use since 1982. Here, the athletes will race around the Côte d’Azur, from a dip in the Mediterranean sea up toward the Alps, testing their limits in swimming, cycling, and running on a 140.6-mile journey around the stunning French riviera.
Germany's Patrick Lange – who also won back-to-back world titles in 2017 and 2018 – set a course record as he won the race for the third time in Kailua-Kona in 2024.
