The Melbourne Storm is a professional rugby league club based in Melbourne, Victoria. They compete in Australia's National Rugby League (NRL).
📜 Melbourne Storm History
Despite being the second-largest city in Australia, it took until 1997 for the club to be formed. The franchise name "Storm" was selected as a result of a newspaper competition, with local teenager Cameron Duncan providing the winning suggestion. The team then had to wait a further year to join the NRL, as Australian rugby league's famous TV rights battle - dubbed the "Super League War" - was still being resolved. Finally, in 1998, Melbourne Storm played its first top-flight match, and in its debut season reached the NRL finals.
The Storm's rapid rise continued: in 1999, only its second full year of competition, Melbourne Storm claimed a historic premiership win. It has since claimed the NRL title on 3 more occasions, doing so most recently in 2020.
The Storm's traditional home colours are purple and dark blue.
