Melbourne City are a men's football club based in Melbourne, Australia. They ply their trade in the A-League Men's division and play their home games at AAMI Park.
History
The club was founded in 2009 as Melbourne Heart, before switching names in 2014 following their takeover by the City Football Group. When the A-League was founded in 2004, the Australian football federation opted for a one team per city policy, with a 5-year moratorium preventing the introduction of another team in Melbourne after the establishment of Melbourne Victory.
City's first silverware came in the 2016-17 season when they lifted the Australia Cup. A period of sustained success came between 2020 and 2023, as they reached 4 consecutive A-League Grand Finals, winning 1, and winning 3 consecutive A-League premierships.
